68HC12 Debug tool for DA128/DG128 includes flash programmer and CAN support

Flex-BDM/68HC12 Image Noral Micrologics has extended its real-time debug support for Motorola's 68HC12 family by launching the industry's first background debug mode (BDM) debugger to include integrated 'flash' memory programming compatible with the new 68HC12DG128 CAN microcontroller.

Designed to simplify each stage of the development cycle associated with embedded and automotive applications, Noral's hand-held Flex-BDM/68HC12DG128 system provides full debug support for the 68HC12 DA & DG128's CAN functionality and allows developers to program the entire 128K of on-board 'flash' memory without the need for additional hardware or any on-target programming voltage. This advanced support for 'flash' means that developers are not only in full control of their memory devices but can also set execution breakpoints in ROM type memories.

Flex-BDM/68HC12DG128 integrates professional BDM hardware with Noral's popular Flex high-level debugger, providing developers with a powerful and intuitive development environment. CAN data is displayed and updated in real-time and because the status of CAN and other special function registers are displayed in plain English, developers need not cross reference binary values with the programmer's databook.

Flex-BDM/68HC12DG128 can be connected to any live embedded 68HC12 target without the need for system reset making it the ideal tool for field development and the on-site debugging of intermittent problems.

Noral's Flex debugging interface is a high-level debugger designed specifically for real-time embedded systems development. Running under Windows NT/98/95/3.1, Flex integrates with all the popular embedded system toolchains and is fully compatible with every 68HC12 code generator. This allows developers to choose their preferred 'C' compilers including those from Cosmic, IAR, Introl and Hiware / Archimedes. An integrated 'C' based macro language automates repetitive procedures and simplifies application-specific tests.
